you can boycott their advertisers and let the advertisers know you are starting a popular boycott, I did this at the local level, and it worked..

  • That's probably true (they're more able to shape culture), but even they don't affect people's decisions to so great an extent.

  • SNL skits and late night TV do more to influence people's opinions than policy positions.

"America- you are fatter and dumber" -- Mike Gravel

  • our press acted more honestly under the fairness doctrine. Clinton repealed the Glass / Steagall act. corporatism has taken over our society and our media is brainwashing the public. they're not just picking and choosing which candidate they like. They're HIRING these candidates and then playing as if they're independent from one another. Why are you fighting FOR the elites?

  • You're a narrow fool. I'm sorry I didn't place "second-tier" in quotation marks, but I'd hoped it wouldn't be taken as given that I somehow thought less of the candidates. They are, as a matter of fact, less known. One of the reasons for that, as I said, is how poorly they're covered. As I also said, one couldn't legislate that the press cover them more respectably.

  • "second tier" mentalities are what stop progress. they start you off before you ever even hear them telling you to think in terms of 1st to last instead of seeing everyone equally. and you allow them to make you think that way. in fact you support them.

  • Yes, the media is considered in some ways to be the "Fourth Check," but a very important cog in a well-functioning press is freedom, even if that freedom leads to despicable decisions. It's wrong that the major debates treated second-tiers like shit, but it would be illegal (and immoral) to legislate how and what the press reports.

  • freedom of the press doesn't mean freedom to collude WITH the establishment. It's supposed to enforce the Opposite! our media is supposed to be another check in our system of governance. Not another check Against the public. truth and justice. Not secrecy and disrespect.
