62 sunbeam alpine

Picked up my latest and last project. I always wanted a Sunbeam Tiger but couldn't afford one. So I found this Alpine real cheap. I hope to get it running for now and stuff a big motor in it next year.

If you are doing a tiger conversion you might want to look at the rear suspension. SII alpines like this have lever arm rear shocks and a shorter travel, look at converting to telescopics. There is much to do to make an alger.. and make it safe.. try the SAOCA forums and TEAE forums. I would be happy to give you info too.. converting an alpine is a very expensive process.

Do you have to beef up the car, ie build a subframe; or will the unibody take it?

you are going to have a hard time fitting a 350 ? chev I take it they are too wide without having to do major bracing and cutting internal fenders and structure, contact Gary Schotland in new Jersey for parts very resonable. I installed a 4.0 litre V-6 in mine and still had to change out the front end (Pinto Mustang II ) worked great. You can view it on this website

Memories for me, too. I had a brand new 1961 Sunbeam Alpine (black) and then traded it in 1965 for a new Sunbeam Tiger (BRG). After the Tiger.... a 1967 Shelby GT500. Those were the days ! Good luck with the project.
