This is my semester ending project for my graduate program at USC in film scoring. The assignment was to choose any scene from any movie 2-3 mins long and re-score it. We were given a 22-piece string orchestra with harp and we recorded at Warner Bros. Studios here in Los Angeles. The themes I used in the piece I've actually written intended for a sacred project I'm working on, and I used them here as somewhat of a "tryout." But I think they also worked very well with this emotion-packed scene.
I had to do some tweaking with the video's original sound and dialogue to get rid of the original score so that's why every once in a while you can hear some other music pop in. I also mixed my music louder than if it were actually in the film for the purpose of hearing the piece of music.
The scene is the Execution of Essex from an HBO miniseries called Elizabeth I starring Helen Mirren and Hugh Dancy.
Pity there is a scene cut out. In the full movie you see the head falling ande being showed to the crowd
