DONCASTER Knights battled out a 19-19 draw in their opening pre-season game at Pontypridd.
An early try by Lewis Williams was cancelled out almost immediately by Simon Grainger.
An early try by Lewis Williams was cancelled out almost immediately by Simon Grainger.
Grainger displayed sublime timing to intercept a npass leaving him a straight drive for the line at pace. Aly Warnock tagged on the simple conversion to make it 7-5.
Club captain Anthony Carter added to Knights' account on 12 minutes when finishing off a good charge by the forwards.
Grant Harrington was driven over the line by the weight of the Valley forwards an almost mirror image of a try Doncaster have scored time and time again since director of rugby Lynn Howellls arrived at the club to cut the visitors' interval lead to 14-12.
The third quarter of the game became tactical only coming to life with the introduction of former Pontypridd legend Ngalu Tau and Oli Goss.
Centre Bevon Armitage made several blistering runs into the heart of the Pontypridd defence before eventually coming up with a try on 60 minutes.
Four minutes later Nathan Strong gave Pontypridd the draw that even the most partisan Doncaster supporter would admit that they deserved.
