United Nations, 2 April 2009 - Daily Briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary General. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay today urged the Afghan Government to rescind a new law, reportedly signed by President Hamid Karzai earlier this month, that she said would seriously undermine womens rights in Afghanistan and contravene the Afghanistan constitution as well as universal human rights standards.

I know of a Muslim woman (Canadian Pakistani) that has lost an eye because she was beaten with the heal of a shoe, just because she tried it on at HOME and it pissed her husband off that she bought it, and according to him it was HARAM to wear shoes with heals - she wasn't allowed to wear it not even at home according to HIS belief... people needs to learn about these little issues even among us North Americans... let alone Afghanistan
