This is a video of a work-in-progress game I am making for an Independent Study.
The game is a variant of chess from Japan, called "Shogi". "Sho" meaning "general's", and "gi" meaning "game", Shogi translates to "General's game". "Krieger" means warrior in German, as does "Buke" in Japanese. So I decided to name my name "Bukegi", for "warrior's game" or "Krieger's game".
All options in the options menu are implemented.
- overhead view toggles on/off the overhead and perspective board views
- display moves toggles on/off whether available moves for a piece are drawn
- promotion toggles on/off the ability to promote a piece in-game
- capturing toggles on/off the ability to capture a piece, rather than remove it from play.
When in the game, red stars represent the available moves a piece can make. Yellow stars represent all the possible moves your opponent can make, which lets you quickly see where potential safe spots are located.
The console in the upper left shows notifications to the players based on events that are issued. The list of available console output is:
"Player x's move completed successfully"
"Player x captured part of Player y's army"
"Move illegal. try again."
"Player x is in CHECK"
"Drawing aggro ON/OFF"
"Debug camera ON/OFF"
"Debug piece move ON/OFF"
"Debug promoting selected piece (if possible)"
The bad text quality and speed is because of Fraps' crappy video recording.
