Born in 1982 to a prominent Djeli (Griot) family of Bamako, Mali, Mamadou, widely known as "Madou," is the youngest son of the late Sidiki Diabaté and Mariam Kouyaté.
Madou currently lives in Bamako with his wife, singer Safiatou Diabaté. He is highly respected for his command of the traditional kora repertoire and is also on the cutting edge of "Jazz Manding", a modern direction, combining jazz sensibilities and foreign influences with the Malian sound. Today, he is considered one of the best kora players in all of West Africa.

@Ayatollah89 - Really? Sellout? You silly goose. His brother is the greatest kora player to ever live. Madou's kora in this video is less traditional in tone than the kora Toumani normally uses (and it's about the same as the non-traditional Bodony kora that Toumani less frequently uses).

@Ayatollah89 No no no, you being lazy in your head. This sound is not traditional because of the machine heads which alter the sound radically. Also, for his brother, let us note that he is a nonpareil master of the traditional repertoire, a master musician by any standards, and the man who has done more for the presentation of the kora in the world, as well as its development, than any other.
