was Ricardo Montalban in this meant to be God himself? cuz at one moment he mocked at a man who said "this is the work of god; meaning Montalban's work ??

In my opnion:

No he is not a God. I think it is meant that he has abilities above humans given to him from God or a higher being - and thats why he can do all the things he can and give his island guests what they experience. A unique concept even though fiction fantasy; not really any religious reference, but more a focus on the guests human nature.

I remember watching Fantasy Island (& The Love Boat) on a regular basis every Sat. night back in the early-mid 1980s when it still was originally on the air. Each and every episode (of both shows) providing fine escapist fantasy. Just the perfect kind of entertainment for a Sat. evening. Sat. nights are just not the same these days without Fantasy Island (& The Love Boat) airing on its usual channel (ABC) in its usual time slot (Love Boat: 9pm, Fantasy Island: 10pm). Its a crying shame, really.
