Union Pacific's 8587 is in the lead of the "California Zephyr" as it detours on the Union Pacific Geneva sub. Bridge repair at Burlington, Iowa was the cause of the re-route.
I was hoping for the forecasted snow to begin to give a bit of atmosphere to the scene under really, really grey skies. No such luck. But ten minutes after the train passes the snow started. Dang it.
Here's my catch of the the Zephyr detouring from a few weeks (and warmer) ago.

Why were UP engines leading the California Zephyrs for a while?
Is UP taking back control of the train? :P
GlobalistPotato 9 months ago
@GlobalistPotato Because this was a detour over UP tracks, the method of in-cab train control needed a UP engine.
