The Inside Source

A key sequence of the movie has "Garrison" meeting "Mr. X" on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. "X" then gives "Garrison" the inside "scoop" on how the worlds of intelligence, the Pentagon, and defense contractors arranged the murder of JFK. No such "inside source" talked to the real Jim Garrison during the Clay Shaw prosecution, but "Mr. X" is based on a real person: the late Col. L. Fletcher Prouty, a former Pentagon staffer. Someone with Prouty's background ought to know how government works, but Prouty has a long history of making wacky statements. For example, he believed that "The Umbrella Man" in Dealey Plaza was shooting a poison dart at JFK. He claimed that Korean airlines Flight 007 was downed by "an explosive device" planted aboard by the CIA — this in spite of the fact that the Soviets admitted to shooting down the plane! Where his statements aren't obviously wacky, they often diverge from the historical record, as when he discusses the origins of the Vietnam war. And he had a history of associations with unsavory political groups and crackpot cults. None of this prevents Stone from portraying "X" as a fount of truth.

  • if only lee harvey oswald had not given himself a texas school book suppository that morning none of this tragedy would ever have happened.

  • @assparade001 maybe but also maybe not , maybe somebody else then had shot down JFK in a other place and time.

  • JFK would still be alive if MLK Jr. was Vice President.!

  • well MLK was not old enought to be the Vice President in 1960. Eligibility: Not be younger than 35 years old. In 1964 MLK was old enought.

  • Respond to this video... You have to be a moron, who likes sticking their foot in their mouth to avoid realizing that the conspiracy is real. First of all, idiots who don't believe, explain why he was receiving $200 a month from the FBI as a potential informant. This supposed loner no body who acted alone? That fact alone blows the lid off the official story. End of discussion, thank you and good day.

  • @TitusFlavius79 Are you a retard? Being catholic was enough of a hurdle, having a black vp would've given him no shot. I hate stupidity, it's a pet peeve of mine.

  • @assparade001 What video have you just seen??

  • This scene always gives me the creeps...

  • @essie311 Comedian Bill Hicks said it best: On Inauguration day the new president gets taken to a dark, smoky room. Sitting around a table are the wealthiest industrialists in the world staring at him. One of the men says "show him the tape" . The new president then watches the well known assassination footage, but its clearer and from a never before seen angle. The guy at the head of the table stops the tape and says... "any questions?".

  • The reason Obama hasn't been assassinated yet is because it seems only presidents who want to change things get killed. JFK wanted to change things and was killed for it. Do you think Obama is smarter than we give him credit for? He's protecting his own ass, not from some lone nut assassin, but from everyone around him and the military industrial process....

  • Did garrison ever meet Fletcher prouty in real life?

  • Fletcher Prouty was Mr X.

  • LHO acted alone, I truly believe that.

  • @reefergladness One of the best scene stealing moments in movie history. Sutherland was brilliant.
