  • Very Very Cool. Help me understand what I'm seeing here. It looks like the stator is turning. Or do you have 1 rotor on each turbine with a stationary stator? I had also considered building another turbine mounted beside the existing one and chain drive them together. I could generate more torque but there would obviously be mechanical losses and it would also lose efficiency if the wind were in line with the turbines.

  • @mdctlew The stator is attached to the shaft attached to the top wing section. The two rotors are attached to the bottom wing section struts and those wings rotate on bearings around the shaft that goes to the top wings. There is a video showing how it's put together in my videos here. Just look in the uploads , there are better video's showing how they are put together.

  • @mdctlew" Lenz 2 counter rotating construction video, with bearing setups" Is the name of the video. Just do a search if you have trouble finding it.

  • Does That have a functional alternator? I love that!!

  • @mdctlew yes it does have the alternator that I built from the plans on Ed Lenz's windstuffnow website. I have a larger one on my dock that is turning a 12 inch alternator . I had a 70 turn per coil stator on that one and just recently changed to one with 55 turns per coil. The 55 turn works the best. could probably even have been just 50 turns. I'll get a video of it on here one of these days. It is on here with the 70 turn stator already.

  • @mdctlew I had considered trying that because it would effectively double the rpm at the rotor but could never figure out how to get a weather resistant swivel for the alternator.
