About the Listed Item
This particular package of small-size katorisenko mosquito repelling insect coils is scented with the pleasant aroma of Green Apple. The package includes four coils total with two coils per layer. To use the coils you must first separate the coils one from another (please see listing photos for example of use). The package also includes a special small metal stand for holding the coils when in use though a plate or other device is needed to catch the hot ash. Katorisenko should be stored out of light when not in use in order to preserve the potency of the active agent. Each coil is designed to burn for approximately two hours. The maker cautions that proper ventilation is always necessary when using any mosquito coils and available windows and screened doors should be kept open when in use. This unique Japanese-made aromatic katorisenko is also available with the scent of Ocean Breeze, Grapefruit and Morning Glory. And please read below to learn more about the history and use of katorisenko.

More about katorisenko
Mosquitoes and flies are an annoying problem during the hot and humid Japanese summer and people have for centuries been swatting at the insects during the day and taking refuge under tent-like nets at night. One of the most successful methods of discouraging bites is the use of special insect repellent incense coils called katorisenko. This unique form of incense makes use of a natural plant compound called pyrethrum which is derived from Old World plants of the genus Chrysanthemum. Pyrenthrum has very little effect on mammals and birds though it is a natural nerve poison to insects and will repel and discourage mosquitoes from biting. The compound is naturally biodegradable and will break down readily with prolonged exposure to sunlight and is considered one of the safest insecticides for use around food. The Japanese have developed many unique and interesting incense burners (koro) for use with katorisenko. One of the most popular is the classic pig koro which is shaped like a pig and provides openings at the front and back for smoke ventilation (please see last photo below). We carry several different types of katorisenko within our eBay store The Old Tokaido. The following list gives a brief description of each:
Uzumaki - Traditional green coils for mosquitoes
Haetori Senko - Special formula for mosquitoes and flies
Uzumaki Bien - Lower smoke black coils good for closed spaces
Tennen Jochugiku - Natural brown coils with no artificial color or perfume

You can soak an MRE fuel tablet (used for cooking meals) in tobasco sauce and it will keep people away too - just like red pepper spray or tear gas - wonder if this coil would work with tobasco sauce?
