aww Shoreditch station looks cute (as in it appears to have been a small localised station) It's lovely how there are people there taking pics and vids of the last train there (I bet the driver of that train was well chuffed to be the last to drive it!) Forever immortalised! And that's a lovely tribute too! :)

Bye Bye Shoreditch. They're going to extend the East London Line and build a new station called Shoreditch High Street.

Used to catch glimpses of this line from the overground going into Liverpool Street. Although I never used Shoreditch station, it's sad I think, to see old ones go for any kind of redevelopment. I remember Shadwell station though..............also remember seeing the "well" just inside one of the tunnels. There were ferns growing.............!

@boywithadolphin they better not close mill hill east, though you are right, they should have followed through with the extention.

Fantastic video that captures the atmosphere of the day!
I was on the platform to photograph the train both arriving and leaving as I'd been promised that I'd be allowed to stay for the ceremonial closure ceremony.
That was a lie as it turned out and I was unceremoniously shown the station door before the dignitaries arrived by staff who didn't care who I was or about the fact that I'd been given permission to stay.

What is the next underground stastion to close? Mill Hill East maybe? They should have completed the extention to Edgware. I remember the tracks being lifted in 1964. So near yet so far.

Both of these tunes are by Bert Kaempfert Greatest Hits. The first one is called "L-O-V-E" and the second one is called "Red Roses for a Blue Lady"
