Sky News: Failed New Labour chancellor Alistair Darling gives a talk to the Institute of Directors (IOD) about his fantasy figures budget he gave last week.

New Labour cut the basic rate of tax for taxpayers from 10% to 20%. Doesn't sound like a cut to me, trying to re-write history to pretend that the 10% band never existed.

Don't cut £20bn hated ID cards system because he claims the information is needed for biometric passports - but they aren't needed, Alistair is lying. The press play along spreading this lie.

He also talks of £2bn in deferred taxes from businesses creating a huge hole in finances. No Alistair, borrowing £90bn in 08/09 year and £175bn for 09/10 tax year is the hole in your figures. There should be massive public sector pet scheme cuts.

STOP P1SSING OFF TAXPAYERS MONEY.

  • Well, he's more coherent than Brown, if that counts for anything.

  • No, counts for nothing. Look at Darling's history as a student etc. They don't change their spots, they just have a shave, put on a suit, and pretend to have changed.

  • No have a go - The 1980s recession began in the first quarter of 1980, and lasted for four quarters. The unemployment rate at that time was 5.8%; it did not return to that level for 20 years. From the third quarter of 1990 onwards, the economy recorded five successive quarters of negative growth. In the second quarter of 1990 unemployment was 6.9% and did not return to that rate for seven years.

  • Thankyou :) Don't worry I wasn't 'having a go', merely putting the information out there for others to see too :)

  • As far as I'm aware, the only compliment I gave Darling was that he could construct a sentence. You make some very good points though, especially about the media!

  • Same agenda, different faces! They like to make us think they are at each others throats, be it politicians or their parties however, behind the scenes they are very friendly! He who controls public information controls public opinion...ie corporate media. "Damnation without investigation is the height of ignorance" - Albert Einstein
