I saw the play The Trial of the Catonsville 9 March 15, 2009 in Los Angeles. It is a shortened version of the court transcript.Father Dan Berrigan was a poet but I did not realize how eloquently he could speak. It would have been worth it just to hear him speak. The discussion afterward had Father blasé Bonpane, recently expelled by the CIA from Guatamala took part. Berrigan asked him to join them, He had speaking engagements and he could accomplish more speaking about his experiences.
My Name is Chris Farlekas and I was the Photographer in this Video. It was a moment in time that has influenced my life for the last 40 years. I look back upon this day with great honor.
Father Daniel and Philip Berrigan were the real deal as far as the Catholic left goes. Americans need to wake up, grow some balls, and start doing things like this again under the watchful eye of the Holy Spirit.
This Catonsvile Nine civil disobedience was very inspiring for us in Sweden both during the Vietnam war but also some years later in our nonviolent civil disobedience against nuclear weapons. Without the priests in the movie, Dan & Phil Berrigan, we would have been much more obedient. Per from Sweden (who 1984-85 spent a year in Danbury FCI, where Phil & Dan were held, for my plowshares disarmament of Pershing II rockets.)
If you really listen to the story of the Catonsville nine you will see that what they did nearly 40 years ago is still relevent as to what is going on today.
No one back then thought that what they did that day in 1968 would still be talked about today.
Listen to what the NINE had to say about Vietnam and Guatemala.
Once you open your eyes and mind you will understand that what you see around you is what you want to see, not what is really going on.
I heard Tom Lewis speak Friday in Northampton, Mass....these are the truly patriotic American, who are willing to sacrifice their personal comforts and freedom (these men and women spent 2-3 years in jail for this act) for the greater good and for peace...thank you for posting this video....
