From October 14th - November 3rd, 2008, Barefoot Workshops led a three-week program in the West Bank, teaching Palestinian organizations how to write, shoot, produce, and edit, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), to raise awareness about issues of public concern.

Twelve PSAs were produced on such topics as: labor law, honor killings, Palestinian land rights, community betterment, political unity between parties, gender relations, volunteerism and youth empowerment. The aim of the workshop was to foster greater civic participation, activism, and debate in the region of the Middle East by teaching civil society organizations how to create messages that can improve their societies from within. The workshop was supported by the United States Government Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and Creative Associates International.

This 30-second PSA, created by Palestinian Center for Rapprochement between People, presents a group of boys playing with toy guns until one becomes injured, and must be rushed to the hospital. The group of boys next appears crushing the toy guns, and playing soccer instead, while the injured boy appears on the sidelines watching them. The PSA is to a call to keep children away from war games, as they negatively affect their well being, and their future. It is also a call to parents to buy their children toys that support positive life skills. The final message reads, Let Us Keep Our Children Away From Violent Games.

  • That's what goggles are for, idiots! Besides, kids can't get their hands on airsoft guns unless some one of age buys it for them.

  • What a tragedy. Indoctrination at such a young age is sad.
