Some of you may know I was booked onto the Torbay Express on July 11, which unfortunately was cancelled because not enough bookings were recieved to make running the tour feasable, most likely because of the date's clash with the world cup final. I transferred my booking to August 8, which was booked with the Unique BR 8P 4-6-2 71000 Duke of Gloucester. Unfortunately the previous day, 71000 failed its Fit-to-Run test with an 11-inch flat on the bogie under the driver's cab on the fireman's side. Because the backup engine in the form of GWR King 4-6-0 6024 King Edward I was at Yeovil having its Brich Arch rebuilt, the tour company had no alternative but to hire in a DBS Class 67, namely 67018 Keith Heller, to haul the train. When I got to Paignton I transferred to the Paignton Dartmouth Steam Railway to ensure I got at least some steam haulage that day. The Locomotive in Action was GWR 4200 2-8-0T 4277 'Hercules'. The day was a trip down memory lane for me, as the first Steam Railway Trip I can remember going on was a ride in the Devon Belle Observation Saloon (which requires a £1.50 supplementary fare, worth every penny) back in 1997 behind 4277's sister loco, 5239 'Goliath'. I had been hoping that Goliath would be in traffic, but it was in light steam ready for sharing the 2 train services the following week, and Hercules was a much more fitting loco for me than Lydham Manor would have been, although I have had a round trip behind 4277 at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway before and not once have I been behind the GWR 4-6-0
Anyway, the Plan I did was:
|0915 Torbay Express Bristol - Paington (67018)
|1215 PDSR service Paignton - Kingswear (4277)
|1515 PDSR service Kingswear - Paignton (4277) (In Devon Belle Observation Saloon)
|Walk to Goodrington Sands Station and back to Paington
|1715 Torbay Express Paignton - Bristol (67018)
In this, the first of two parts, we see onboard footage of the journey down to Kingswear, and various shots of 4277 in and around Kingswear Station, before climbing into the Devon Belle Observation Saloon for a trip down Memory Lane.
I would like to thank DBS for coming to the rescue and providing the Washing Machine on wheels to take the tour in stead of it being cancelled, the PDSR for operating their services, and you for taking your time to watch this video
Nice Video mate you do know the paignton & dartmouth steam railway is called Dartmouth Steam railway & riverboat company now?

@BristolCastle No it isn't, that's just the new name of the Operating Company which has changed from Dart Valley Railway Company. I heard an announcement at Kingswear saying 'Welcome to the Paignton Dartmouth Steam Railway'. Calling it the 'Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company' would be like calling the GCR 'Friends of the Great Central Mainline', or the GCRN 'East Midlands Railway Trust'.
