In its prime, was there ever a more gloriously beautiful voice than Tauber's? It may have had a rather curtailed top, but the notes it did possess were simply golden to my ear. The precision attack & placing of notes, & the wonderfully free emission, along with his obvious joy in making sound & bringing pleasure to others, just brings a wide grin of amused affection to my face every time. Bravo Richard! & thank you...

umdieecke48 Thank you for posting the film video.

Although 'Ach so fromm' was the first operatic aria Tauber ever recorded, in 1919, I've not traced any stage appearance by him as Lionel in Marta, other than this clip from 'Das lockende Ziel'. Can anyone show otherwise?

Never seen/heard this before. Many thanks for posting!
I wish that singers could just stand and sing like that still. Now adays it seems like all directors wants you to bumble around like an idiot the whole time your singing.

As it was Tauber's own film company, I think he would
have instructed the director as to how he wished to sing the aria.
