South Carolina RepubliCON Gov. Sanford admits extramarital affair 'I've been unfaithful'

South Carolina RepubliCON Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday, amid speculation over his whereabouts for the last several days, that he has been engaged in an extramarital affair with an Argentinian woman.

"I've been unfaithful to my wife," the RepubliCON governor told a news conference in Columbia, the state capital. "I developed a relationship with what started as a dear, dear friend from Argentina."

His voice choking at times, Sanford apologized to his wife and four sons, his staff and supporters, and said he would resign immediately as head of the Republican Governors Association. The affair was discovered five months ago, Sanford said.

No one said Democrats don't cheat on their wives, it happens everywhere to everyone. The difference is that when it's someone like Sanford, someone on the very right side of his party, who put "family values" as his core quality, then this is hypocrisy.

Clinton didn't pretend to be a heaven-sent family-value type of guy, this guy did. Sort of like the anti-gay senator who hires a male prostitute, do you know what I mean?

moregyal: In adultery, the one committing the act is the one to blame, not the spouse who remains faithful. You absolutely cannot fix marital problems by going outside the marriage. In this case it was the husband who strayed, he took the vows and broke them. The consequences are his to shoulder.

I have nothing but sympathy and respect for any spouse, wife or husband, (and kids involved) who has been cheated on. It takes a strong person to endure that humiliation and betrayal.

I have nothing but admiration for Mrs Jenny Sanford. Willing to let him have his sapce to figure out what he wanted but with major ground rules. All he had to do was stay away from his mistress and he would keep his family. I wonder if his "fling" was worth the humiliation and heartache he caused his wife and children and likely losing his family.. Politicians are obviously very poor representatives for the male gender/husbands/fathers....
