Actually, this particular song from the Boy album is about turning 18 and being scared to face adulthood for the 1st time. When Bono wrote the song he felt life itself and the whole growing up and moving on cycle is "out of control"- the song where he expresses grief over his mom's death is "I will Follow" and it's beautiful. I highly recommend the video, you can check out U2 when they're young.
