For lovers of the book 'A Christmas Carol' it can be frustrating to watch the film versions as they cut, abridge and even make up the content of Charles Dickens' perfect story. And yet there are moments of almost every video version that connect to and bring the book to life. I've tried to integrate these moments in a way that best 'shows' the story as Dickens wrote it.

In this part look out for the horse drawn hearse going up Scrooge's stairs from the cartoon version. This is a pretty compelling moment but for some reason no other version includes it.

This Chuck Jones/Richard Williams cartoon won the academy award in 1972 for best short film and is easily the best film version on a per minute basis. Unfortunately at 25 minutes it is simply too short to convey the full force of the story.

Still I think it is the gem of all the versions and although it is out of print (well you can buy a new VHS of it on Amazon for $199.99 or used for 89.99) you can watch it in it's entirety right here on youtube:

25 minutes on youtube? How did that happen?

  • in scene 1:29-2:12 can you please tell me who this actor is.

I have been looking for this version and i can't find it any where and i think he is a really good scrooge!

I want it with him in it.

    Thanks...

  • That's Albert Finney and in the knocker it's Alec Guinness. Pretty Formidable pair of actors. It's called 'Scrooge', it's from 1970 and you can get it new on Amazon for 10.99. It's a musical and it has the best knocker scene along with some great bells!

  • @latitudetwenty Have you ever thought of using scenes from the 80's Cartoon Episode of "The Real Ghostbusters" where they travel back in time and unwittingly trap the Ghosts of Christmas? XD

  • Albert Finney's Scrooge does encounter a ghostly hearse, but it's in the street where it belongs LOL

  • HOLY S--T ITS MARLEY! EVERYONE IN THE CAR!!!

  • Hurrah! My favorite 'Cratchit slide' on his way home is the 1935 one, too. :) He seems to take such genuine childlike joy in it, and it just seems the most in the spirit of the story. I had forgotten that the animated short had the blind man's dog part. Have you noticed that it appears in the Alastair Sim one, too, although there's no narration? Anyway, again, this is really fun and interesting to watch, and thanks for making and sharing it!

  • 1:46 He got a EPIC FACE XD

  • @latitudetwenty dude speaking of in the door knocker, you should have showed the door-knocker scene from the 1984 version!

  • You know i just went to amazon and found

it. Thank you so much sorry you were right.

I was looking for him in the xmas carol and

    all along it was Scooge.

    Thanks buddy!

  • Hold on did you look at 1:29 i just checked

these two you mentioned and they dont seem

to like the actor in that scene!!

  • OMG thank you so much for that!

    I will look for it!
