I finally decided to try a 'closed bolt loading mod' and it works. It takes a little technique to get the mags in quickly, but it will do until I get a LRBHO. Mags used were.... Russian 5 round, AGP 10 round, SGM 12 round, and MD Arms MD-20. All were fully loaded except the Russian 5 round with the 3" ammo. Ammo used was.... Federal 'Multi Purpose' 2 3/4" and Winchester 3" 00 Buckshot. The mod works with mags fully loaded with 3" shells. One of the Russian mags only had 4 rounds in it and I didn't realize it until I unloaded. This mod is pretty easy if you have a good eye and good hand skills. Do not remove too much material from the bolt.... spare parts are nearly impossible to find and command a premium.

  • Also, I can load 3" on a closed bolt with a full magazine. It is a nuisance to get the technique, but it is learnable and repeatable.

That one would too. Before the video, I loaded the full 5 rounder w/3" mag in the weapon and I wanted to see how the action felt, and what, if anything, would happen to the base on the top shell when the carrier moved rearward. Forgot to put it back in the mag for the video. I was excited, lol!

One just S12 arrived at my dealer today and another should be there in a few days. One has a rail and one doesn't. I may sell the one with the rail and grab another non-rail. I'm dying to get my evl hands on Gunfxr's LRBHO, but he is pretty busy, so I may not be able to get one for a while.

My wife may be getting me a GoPro HD Hero 2 and a friend has access to a safe area for us to set up anything we want, so I will be shooting some new videos soon.

  • @evlblkwpnz yeah you beat me (gunfun) out.I am envious of the competitions. You will need another dedicated S12 for the drum well.I think it must require a relief cut in the receiver where the front lug would engage. Then to revert you would need a screw on plate over the notch. I know you like to do those super mag dumps. Imagine how fast you could go through all those drums with a magwell and LRBHO. You really need something to shoot at to give people a visual of how much firepower you have.

I have 13 drums and just bought 2 more S12s. I won a TAC47 M.A.G.12 magwell and I will install it on one of the new S12s. I'll see if I can get a look at that JT magwell. Might go well on the other new S12. Drum compatible magwell would be awesome for the open matches near me. The regulars all have 870s and Benellis, lol!

  • @evlblkwpnz I am not brave enough. I definitely see the value, but I can't risk ruining my gun. I think Pauly does a great job, but with my the JT magwell on my main S12 it is hard to justify. You have to be the perfect beta tester for the drum-friendly magwell he is plugging.

I did mine when this stuff was "hush hush". I had to figure it out on my own with a micrometer and a straight edge. I was about to post how I did it with exact specs. When a few business members found out.... bamm, here comes the guide. That guide is a good source for people that are new to working on firearms, but is not fool proof.

  • There is no guide other than this and the others like it forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/50571-how-do-i-polish-the-bolt/

  • Before the mod, I could do it with stick mags, but fully loaded drum mags were impossible to lopad in mine on a closed bolt.

These are my favotire weapons, bar none. Just something about blasting 12 ga at a rapid pace.

  • I reprofiled the bottom of the bolt and polished it with 400 grit sandpaper (agressive removal of material on the underside of the bolt ). Cobra's Custom and Pauly's Steelin' can do this mod for you for less than $100. There is really no guide for how to do this. If you ruin the bolt, spares are nearly impossible to find. If you can pull it off, the mod is worth the effort. Best of luck to you.
