Lyrics and translation
"Seligkeit", poem by Ludwig Hans Christian Hoelty

Freuden sonder Zahl
bluehn im Himmelssaal!
Engeln und Verklaerten,
wie die Vaeter lehrten.
O, da moecht' ich sein,
und mich ewig freu'n!

Joys without number
flourish in the court of heaven
for angels and transfigured souls
--so our fathers taught us.
O, there i long to be
and forever to be happy!

Jedem laechelt traut
eine Himmelsbraut;
Harf' und Psalter klinget,
und man tanzt und singet.
O, da moecht' ich sein
und mich ewig freu'n!

kindly at each one smiles
a celestial bride;
harps and psalteries resound,
and there is dancing and singing.
O, there I long to be
and forever to be happy!

Lieber bleib' ich hier,
laechelt der Traute mir
einen Blick, der saget,
dass ich ausgeklaget.
Selig dann mit dir,
bleib' ich ewig hier!

[Yet] I prefer to stay here
if my sweetheart smiles at me
with a glance which says
that I need sorrow no more.
Blissfully, then, with you
I'll stay here for ever.
