I am here in the Zapote area of San Jose studying Spanish at C.O.S.I.. Because of all the rain (6.3" / 16cm in 2 hours alone yesterday) over the last few days from Tropical Storm Tomas, and especially the torrential downpours last night, part of the Pico Blanco mountain gave way & buried parts of the Escazu area in San Jose. At this point, 17 are confirmed dead & dozens of others are missing. We are OK here in Zapote, where there is no risk of landslide. (about 8 miles from Escazu) Schools are closed throughout the entire country, which is in a state of emergency & red alert, because of further landslide fears.

  • This is so Sad, feel very sorry for the relatives that lost their family. I have some friends in that area, but they are ok.
