Ancient Chinese city-states were almost all walled, to protect them from enemy invasions. During the Cultural Revolution, almost all walls were destroyed, but this is one of the few that fortunately survived.

I was here earlier this year, thanks for bringing back the memories! Although it wasn't so polluted when I was there. I stayed in Beijing, that was much worse.
