Missoula TV station KPAX ran a 3-part series on how citizens are banding together to stop off-road vehicle abuse of public lands. http://www.wildlandscpr.org
wow, lotsa hate here. im from colorado where they use lottery money to build new riding areas, wow what an idea. i have lived in montana 21yrs and have seen nothing but closure, the trails that used to be enjoyed by all are now unusable. no motorcycles, mtn bikes, horses, and even hiking is not enjoyable. here in the gallatin forest (50+% wilderness)us motorcycle riders used to do all the trail maint. now no one does it. i have also traveled the world riding motorcycles, montana is the worst.
@middleground00783 You don't even know what you're talking about. First off, if you knew anything about the off road sports you would know the people don't ride roads, they ride TRAILS. As an enthusiast I have seen first hand the amount of land being taken away. I remember riding trails where I never once saw a hiker, now closed. We have a single legal riding area now, so everyone rides there. I ride respectfully past hikers on our last trail and still get glares from the people like you.
@VerseVisa I am not against all vehicle access, I am against criminal trespass. Why can't you understand that a man with only one leg would be angry about being run down?
@calamagrostis88 wtf??? I think you are showing by returning to the discussion after 4 months, to poke the fire and re-argue your POINTLESS idea of banning offroad recreation shows that you are truly pathetic, man, which is TYPICAL. You are not going to stop a damn thing, and thank God for that. I mistook you for a reasonable person. Now I see that you are just another internet antagonist. Dont call yourself an environmentalist. I'm an environmentalist...Youre more of a mental'ist.. The END.
keep land use fair and we won't have to break the law to have a good time. Don't get me wrong, people are stupid when it comes to off-roading, but those people are going to be stupid anyway. the dirt bike rider in this video didn't appear to do anything wrong.
@calamagrostis88 Well I think it would be a pretty piss-poor experience with a bunch of "warriors running around out in the deep back country, looking for a fight. Now who is ruining it for everyone? I hope you find your efforts rewarding enough to be spending all your outdoor experiences fighting a war which you will certainly lose.
@VerseVisa We can't win every battle, but we can win sometimes, and warriors don't just bow their heads even against invincible odds. In the fight to save the Earth we may be losing, but we will continue to fight.
@calamagrostis88 LOL. If your gripe is now going to be about the sound of an occasional ATV, thats just weak. BY FAR, the most use these roads get are from the cattle, the loggers and the ranchers. wow There are some things in this world you cannot change or stop. Increased offroad use is one of them. You better cope with that. One will either adapt or waste their life complaining about a rare dirtbike in the distance. Me, Im riding. Ill leave those rocks for you to push up the hill. Good luck.
@VerseVisa Also you might think about overpopulation, noise pollution and increased ATV use. A major benefit of open spaces is the quiet you find there. Maybe someone might go to a camping spot and not be bothered an occasional sound of an ATV. But as more off-roaders start using an area the silence is totally destroyed. Our whole world is invaded by noise and there are very few places we can get away from it.

@VerseVisa Why would meeting an environmentalist be worse than being run over by an illegal off roader like this poor guy was?
