Because the city of Kyoto was cited as a historical treasure it was not bombed during WW2.
So, it has the most original structures and the most history in one place that I saw as staggering and unlike the rest of Japan. It is the most authentic of Japanese places and the most beautiful.
The Gold Pavilion is the crown jewel of Kyoto.
