Part 1 of 5: This first video is from the South Boston Yoga Teacher Training 1/14/12. Part one is lecture, part two and three are class conversations, part four and five yoga class exploration.
I like the general tone of most of this. But who says that asana (physical yoga) is relatively young? The Vyasa Bhasya followed Patanjali's Yoga Sutra by about 200 hundred years, with the Sutra believed to be from between 100 BCE & 500 CE.
The biggest consideration "modern yoga" should strive to incorporate is that our sedimentary lifestyle makes some of the teachings less accessible at first. But there is nothing new about yoga. It is ancient, and generally need-not be reinvented IMO.
This video characterizes what yoga teaching and training should be...a thoughtful, heartfelt, honest response to the NYT article and exploration of the yoga practice. Thanks South Boston Yoga for entering into this dialogue with yogis and non-yogis alike!
So proud of you for posting this video...real voices, real dialogue, real recognition of the responsibilities of being a teacher for this wise group of future teachers. Bravo South Boston Yoga!
So smart. And so important to recognize thst yoga is growing and changing. How we think about it, and then teach it... super important, so the practice groes in a way the can benefit and support all.
