Full stop landing into Camarillo airport (KCMA). The weather was mostly IFR in the morning; didn't know if things would clear. I had planned on going to San Luis Obispo (KSBP) or Oceano (L52), but IFR conditions lingered on. So I decided upon Camarillo, since wx was clear, being fully aware of a TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) just southwest of CMA for an air show that afternoon.
My flight plan: I decided to fly direct to the Van Nuys (VNY) and Camarillo (CMA) VORs, something I hadn't done in a while. I won't be doing that again! There was plenty of traffic ATC vectored me around; its not worth the hassle or risk of doing that! Much easier to stay on top of the 101 freeway which takes you away from most of the action.
For the landing into CMA, the video shows terrain to the south approaching Camarillo from the East. If you have driven up the 101 past Camarillo, the scenery should look familiar.
The airport was not busy for a Sunday, probably because of the TFR. The landing back into El Monte, however, was very busy. I heard my former flight instructor (Sean) in the traffic pattern that afternoon!
