Learning how to read a sewing pattern involves recognizing the various symbols that are used, as a solid black line represents a cut line, a dotted line indicates a sewing line and a V-shaped notch illustrates where two pieces of a pattern match up. Read sewing patterns correctly for the best finished result with instructions from a sewing craftsman in this free video on sewing.

  • @lhendrix489 haha I was just watching her!! This is WAY better!!

  • Thank you! Your video is wayyyy better and easier to understand than that scary woman's videos from expert village.

  • I have a question please: Where is the thread coming up from the bobbin is supposed to be while sewing? In the back with the other thread right? But when i saw with that method, it just makes horrible balls of thread behind the fabric. PLEASE help me!

  • Thank you- even though I know how to read a pattern, this reminder was at just the right level for beginners, but didn't talk down to anyone.

  • I don't understand the second and 3rd lines

  • Thank you so much, this is the 5th video I've watched and so far the only helpful one :)

  • I never know why the instructions cant be this basic when explaining. ie. it never states whether recommended to cut notches in our out. It also puts the circles with the notches and the description says : "For matching seams." You should make patterns!

  • thank you much this taught me a lot. keep making your videos :D

  • Thank you for this video, I could not find anyone local to teach me this, they all said anyone can read a pattern and that anyone who can't should just buy things. I homeschool my kids and want them to learn to sew. It has helped so much!
