Because.....there r innocent people in Afghanistan (not many) but there r some innocent farmers that really have no other means 2 feed their families than to grow the only crop that will pay them. As well, their family's lives r threatened if they don't grow the poppies. Moving on. This war has gone on for 2 long bcuz of media involvement & cryin' liberals over civilian casualties & taliban know it. & they use it against us. War is hell! Wrong place @ the wrong time.....you die! That simple.

911 terrorists had many many avenues of funding--let them keep their poppies cause they all stay stoned on that stuff--easier to kill them then. And they dont imprison criminals as guilleman9 says--they execute them. Taliban may be innocent victims of our anger, but lets kill them all anyway just to be on the safe side.

yeah but this drug biz made 500 Billion last year,destroying 1 and 2 more will pop up somewhere else.that was the tactic they used in latinamerica for decades,but in fact production has multiplied,doesn't work.
BTW Taliban made money from the drug heroin business at first, but is prohibited to trade and grow such now, they are not involved with it.Even in their "government" they imprison those who are involved in it,go check it out man it blew my mind. The media is such a wh.ore,is disgraceful.

If the Politicians and Military really care about solving this mess, Why not just blow the poppy fields apart?That will lessen the Heroin problem in this country and prevent the Taliban thugs from making money
