Chrissy is a Chihuahua that was rescued from a pound, where they thought she was aggressive as she would nip at anyone touching her. We got her home and discovered that she is blind and deaf, possibly from hydrocephaly (water on the brain). So someone touching her was a surprise, and she reacted in fear. We keep her in a heated bathroom for her own safety, and she has gradually come to be less afraid of us. She is not 100% blind, and can probably see shapes, but only when the lights are really bright. Hopefully, she will relearn to trust people, but as long as she is not suffering, and enjoys her chicken salad treats, we plan to keep her. We don't know her real age, but she may be up to 15 years old.

  • Sadly, out little girl Chrissy passed away today, she had several severe seizures (her blindness and deafness were from previous brain damage), and we had to have her euthanized. She had just eaten her chicken salad for breakfast, and was walking around when the siezures started. On the positive side, she lived for more than 1 year and 10 months since we first got her, which is much longer than we expected, considering her condition and age. We'll miss her.

  • Update: Chrissy is still alive and kicking. Took her to the vet last month for a checkup - vet put the smallest muzzle in the world on her to clip her nails, little bit larger than a thimble. She seems to have better hearing and vision, but still not great. Still eats only chicken salad, but if that's what makes her happy, so be it.

We let her out in the house when we can supervise her - seems to be happy. We plan to keep her as long as she lives.

  • My Chihuahua who is 7years old just recently became totally blind in one eye. He does not have much vision in his other eye due to glacoma. Its pretty much a waiting game for total blindness then at that time he has to get his eye balls removed, due to painfull swelling that wont disapear. I am real sad but thanx for your video. I had him since he was 5 months old :-(

  • so cute! you are good people!!!!!!
