A short compliation of the Incident at turn 9 on Sunday 8th November at the Sandown Historics when a Torana hit the armco on drivers right going in to turn 9 and burst into flames. The emegency and Medical response was fantatstic The observers responded expertly ,the flaggies kept eveything under control and the recovery crews were able to clean up and fix a severly damaged section of armco with incredible speed.. Congratulations from all in Race Control for a well controlled incident.
Thanks to Brett Herlihy for putting the compilation together

There were extinguishers on inside of the corner but not where the car hit the barrier.

Officials, on foot, can not cross a "hot" track.

The fire vehicle was quickly despatched from where it was parked up hill at the end of the back straight.

The incident was responded to a soon a quickly as possible.

Regards from a Sandown volunteer official

  • The main thing here is the driver was ok.

I wonder why it took so long for the fire crew to arrive, wouldnt there be a few with extinguishers on the corner?

  • Wow that looked like it happened so quickly. Good thing no one was hurt but it's always a shame when a gorgeous car like that has a stack.

  • As one of the medical response team members from Team Medical Australia, that covered this event, Thank You for posting this video...it does validate our voluntary work :-) Sue H

  • As part of the TeamMed responders, want to say thanks to all the Marshalls and especially the VFRS boys, great job.
