it's an upper class old southern accent...listen to how the plantation owners from new orleans or atlanta used to talk...listen to rich people in the south today, the "old money" crowd, they still talk alot like that.

The accent is actually an intriguing choice. I've often wondered about Poe's accent (born a Bostonian, raised in London and Richmond... what does a 19th century Southern accent sound like anyway?) Kudos.
