Huh? That's not true at all. He sounds exactly like what he is - a guy from Portsmouth on the south coast of England. (Also my home town.) You might be getting confused because the Pompey accent has a partial west country burr on the Rs to it (like a pirate), and that same burr has always been a non-trivial component of the American accent. But trust me, his accent is definitely English. Perhaps just not the accent you think of as being English (there are DOZENS of distinct English accents).
