http://www.trusera.com/health/collections/autism Some people think I don't discipline my son well, but that's because they don't understand Asperger's. If he has a tantrum (which is often!) and I get upset and punish him, it just gets worse. So I just stay calm, and sometimes give him a reward.

Presented by Trusera, the online network where you can find and share real-world experiences with others who have been there. Autism Awareness starts with Insight, Understanding and Inspiration. Every Day. Come. Listen. Share.

  • Bravo!!!

  • I do have aspergers and have known a few people that have also had it, usually were easily distracted and we dont like large crowds, but I remeber acting all wierd when I was a kid and these days I would wonder why did I act like that again? I can tell you that as we get older it sort of goes away, the retardedness anyways, the social problems stay although i have learned to get along with others a bit more, infact most of the friends I have now dont know I have AS till I tell them

  • Kudos to this momma..It would be VERY hard not to get upset, mad, irritated...BUt you do it..awesome!! What a great mom!

  • @Politicallslam I have type 1 Diabetes. I got over it took responsibility about a year in. I was in 5th grade at that time.

  • yep been there in A Supermarket son had a whopping tantrum we just kept an eye on him then talked him round quietly and a person said why cant you control your son! my wife said well if you can do better you have him! mind you he is special needs and has Aspergers syndrome which is part of Autism! her reply was oh im sorry he looks so Normal!!! yes they do but these children have challenges that we take for granted! social interaction, cognitive behaviour,dexsterity etc;

  • @Wrecklesslife911

    Forgiven.

  • @FredericaBimble I don't think you understand the kind of workplace we're talking about here. In the world of heavy industry, nobody gives a shit if you've got problems, needs, if you're sick or your mom just died. Nobody gives a shit about anything except getting the job done and getting out of there without getting hurt or killed on the job. If you're "high maintenance", you're gone.

  • This is kind of funny but tragic at the same time. I wasn't diagnosed until I was a grown woman. I tell people now that you should NEVER spank your children and as a parent, try to explain to them what you want or why their behaviour is inappropriate. The reason why is because, for example, I grew up to believe that is was acceptable to hit when you didn't get your way (the same way my mother did with me). I hit no less than 10 people in my adult years until I taught MYSELF how to behave.

  • @dogterd - Maybe it would have been helpful if you told others. Understanding is the first road to making the world a better place. I now tell people that I am so they don't have to expect things from me I can't deliver.

  • @hugeshy - When you get big enough, pay her back. My mother taught me how to beat up others by doing what you're talking about. Just bide your time and give it back to her later.
