Before the string of awards for theatrical films were given out, the
mob drama "The Sopranos" swept the board, taking the trophy for best
cast in a TV drama and the best actor and actress awards for James Gandolfini
and Edie Falco in an emotional finish to the series that ended in June. "No Country For Old Men," directed by Ethan and Joel Coen,
took the award for best ensemble cast and Spanish actor Javier Bardem won the
best supporting actor award for playing a cold-blooded killer in the movie. "No Country" also won the Directors Guild Award on Saturday
and has eight nominations for an Oscar next month. SAG's best supporting actress award went to veteran Ruby Dee for her
role in "American Gangster." Britain's Julie Christie, 66, won the best actress award for playing a
woman with Alzheimer's disease in "Away From Her." Christie is also
heavily tipped for an Oscar. "It's lovely to receive an award from your own union, especially
at a time when we are being so forcefully reminded how important unions
are," Christie said in one of several comments on Sunday about the bitter
dispute between Hollywood screenwriters and movie and television studios. British actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who won the best actor award for his
role as a greedy early 20th century oil baron in "There Will Be
Blood," dedicated his trophy to Ledger Ledger, 28, who was best known for his role as a reluctant gay cowboy
in "Brokeback Mountain," was found dead in his New York apartment
last week. The cause of death is still unclear. Day-Lewis, 50, said he had never met Ledger But he paid tribute to
Ledger in his acceptance speech. The traditional Oscar ceremony on February 24, has been under threat
from the three-month strike focusing on improved payments for work distributed
over the Internet. But hopes of a settlement have risen since the two sides resumed talks
last week. Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Cate Blanchett provided
some much-missed star power on the red carpet at SAG after actors boycotted
the Golden Globes and People's Choice Awards earlier this month in support of
the striking writers. The Writers Guild of America allowed its members to write for the SAG
show and did not protest outside because actors have been strong allies of the
writers.

  • As a homosexual prostitute with a SAG card,

I'd like to thank Javier for that shout out!

  • Most people express their opinions without having seen all the films and all the performances... I guess there's a film critic in all of us!!! Congrats to Julie Christie (SAG Winner) and Marion Cotillard (Oscar Winner) both of them gave great performances this year!!!

  • @TheAngelmuse SAGrepresents actors votes & they voted for Julie Chrisite, as did Criitcs groups(ie NYFilm Critics, Nat.lSociety, BroadcastFilmCritics, Nat. Board of Review). Unfortunately, with the Oscars 3 weeks away, M.Cotillard went on a "vote for moi, s'il vous plait?" campaign, Oscar voters for the award are variedprofessions(techs, actors, agents)UNrepresentative of the Peers as SAG is. You're also using an incorrect form of "there", should be "their"&her name is Cotillard, notCollitard

  • @shnooger ahh ok cool.... yes PLEASE watch La Vie en Rue. I was not expecting to be taken on a journey of this amazing life, that of Edith Piaf. If you love great perfermances. dont let this one pass you by to long. Anyhow, let me know when you do finally watch. Id love to hear your opinion. You seem to appreciate and know about talented performance. Cate as Elizabeth is one of my favorites roles in film, so im glad you So Enjoyed that film too! Peace .......

  • @TheAngelmuse Oh, OK...cool. But Laura Linney's not one of the nominees here (are you thinking of the Oscars?lol.) Anyway, Julie won for her peformance, not for the overall film...otherwise it would be a different category. I agree with you that Cate shoulda won a decade before. I'll have to watch that Piaf movie one of these days (and maybe I'll say, "Hey, TheAngelMuse is right!"). Marion won the Oscar anyway (the big one!). Peace : )

  • @shnooger This particular year I did watch all the ladies performance in their nominated films. Julie christie was good yes. But the film overall was boring. Cate Blancett is Awsome, but she should of won for the original film of Elizabeth and not Gwenth P. 10 years earlier. Ellen P. was ok. Laura Linney was great. But Marion was AMAZING. Had it not been Marion I think Cate should have won for being robbed 10 years earlier. Marion was that good, she won for a French language film. : )

  • @TheAngelmuse You saw all of the performances?

  • Seriously - Julie Christie over Marion Collitard??? Really ??? NO Way - thank goodness people came around to there senses by the time the Oscars came around. Marions performance doesnt even compare to any other performances of that year. SHE was absolutley amazing! even though the film was in french, she somehow manages to feel the character, the life and music of Edith Piaf. Im still in AWE!

  • Marion should have won

  • @KellyGreen5555 yeah he's a little control freak

  • Josh Brolin is such a little dick.
