Recorded by Abigail Washburn on August 19, 2008. A song recorded by Washington Phillips in the 30's, learned after the Sichuan earthquakes in March 2008, "What Are They Doing in Heaven Today?"

  • is this banjo right there of yours for sale????:) love it!!! and I love how you play the banjo!!:)

  • Most hear Washington Phillips as singing "Physicians and doctors couldn't give them much ease." That is repetitive. Correction of the verse: "There's some whose bodies was burdened full of disease. Their 'citizen' (i.e.,medicine) and doctors couldn't give them much ease." Old phrases to be reckoned with. So beautiful.

  • Very nice rendition kiddo. "There's some who's bodies were burdened with disease"

As a veteran nurse I'd say this is an important song. And that bed behind you needs tightening up.

  • she is in a nationally recognized old timey band called uncle earl you really should recognize,,,, look up uncle earl THERE! you will get MORE!!!

  • love it, i heard this song for the first time in 2007 and fell in love with it... keep up the good work.

  • Such a lovely song--and gorgeous singing.

  • beautiful voice but words are not biblically correct. who said when people die they go to heaven. 1 Thessalonians4v16-17 on Jesus's second coming the dead in christ will be ressurected, how can they be ressurrected when they are already in heaven or this song is everything against Jesus's second coming and ressurection 1 plus 1 is not giving a 2 here

  • That's true. From the way I read it your comment seemed a little critical and I appreciate her musical capabilities. I think you should also realize I was merely trying to point out that just saying "some" talent was an understatement (from my perspective) of her genius. But thank you for defining my error and I hope you get to see her live because she is truly incredible!

  • 1st - Being in a band means nothing per se. Lots of people/bands have minimal talent. Just being in a band means nothing by itself. However, I did not put down any talent...that is just how chose to perceive my comment. If you will read it again, I said she HAS talent and I would like to hear more. Just because you chose to concentrate on the adjective "some" does not make it true that I have insulted her.
