ARISE - Vancouver 1 'Creative' (RYC 2011 Pacific Region CFC-YFC)

The winning entry for this year's 'creative' competition at the CFC-YFC Pacific RYC 2011 for Vancouver 1.

The theme this year's regional youth conference is "Arise," and this year I wanted the film to tell a story of someone rising up from a seemingly hopeless situation. The main character faces obstacles that were both realistic and often go unacknowledged, and I wanted her method of overcoming these obstacles to connect with YFC ideas of mentorship.

Often times what makes someone feel far from God is the atmosphere surrounding a person. In the film, the main character deals with abusive parents, a negative and hurtful boyfriend, and ultimately, an unplanned situation. The most important aspect of this film is the way by which the main characters "arises" from her despair. By the mercy and empathy of a younger character, the main character is given the chance to be a mentor to the young girl -- by becoming a role model to this young girl. The main character learns to mature and appreciate things from a youthful perspective. The lesson is that the only way to arise is to help others. How Christ helped others, by showing an example. The young girl in the film is a Christ like figure who shows love to the main character. The main character is able to heal by mentoring the younger girl.
