Wow! That's amazing! Good job on the mango tree. What part of Canada is this? I grew up in the mango capital of Brazil and would LOVE to have a mango tree, even if it never fruits. You give me hope. :)

I'm NJ, my mango is 8 months old and a little more than 3ft tall... what are you planning to do for the winter? I have mine in the basement of my parents house... together with about 9 citrus trees, orange, clementines, and pineapples. with 3 120watt growlights on a 10 hour cycle... so far so good but it's too early to tell... I want to make it into a bonsai... but I don't want to fuck it up.

@escupulario Wonderful NJ!
Well, my mango tree is aprox. 15 months old and growing strong and healthy, yet slowly I'll admit. That's what happens when you defy nature and grow a tropical fruit tree in Canada :P. I keep this tree out on my deck in full sun from the last frost to the first frost every year, so since the begining of it's existence it has had two summers to enjoy extensive light. During the winter I keep it by South facing sliding decj doors that get about 5 hours of direct light.

@escupulario As for bonsai, I'd take it easy and let it grow awhile... well at three feat, start cutting back branches and make it split, start new growth. you don't want to cut it back too far though. I will be honist although I have read up a little on the topic I don't have experience making trees into bonsais so you may want to seek help from someone else. I can tell you that it isn't an easy prosses and maintaining certain bonsais can be a great challenge.

hey man please can you tell me when i should plant my mango seed and what soil to use? it already has a big root and is getting a small stem.

@SWEET1370 Hey there, plant it :)! Use a tropical potting mix soil. nothing too fancy, just some compost, some sand (playsand is fine) potting soil and peatmoss :).
