They did not all actually live at the same time, the actual historical event went on for generations and the major figures (most of them are in the game) did not live at the same time. But they were actual people in Chinese history, and some places/wars from the game did actually happen.

Were all the characters in this game (such as Liu Bei, Sun Jian, Cao Cao, Lu Bu, Meng Huo, Zhuge Liang) actual people in Chinese history? When I first got this game, I knew nothing about the characters nor did I know anything about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Much to my surprise, apparently the kingdoms of Shu, Wu, and Wei were actual kingdoms and so were the officers in this game? They should make more video games like this. Makes learning history/names/battles easy lol.
