i went there today...and quite a few times before...this place is just amazing to me because of its history...i live not to far away from it, in dawsonville, and i will continue to visit until i learn all i can about its history and stories...then many times after that probably:) i love this placcee!
@karellison The radiation hardened the hardwoods to something resembling plastic - they were all cut and sold. The evergreens were the first to regrow.
dude! me ans some friends went walking here today and everything was fine, but you're right something about this place gives me the chills. i'm from north forsyth which isn't far from here and me and some friends are thinking about camping here but i honestly don't think i could stay the night. hahaha
There are no old growth hardwoods because they were logged when the facility was built. The piles of dirt are for cutting roads, and when it snows there is none inside the fence an up to 30ft. outside the fence line. That is a good area to avoid.

I see fir trees, but no deciduous foliage. Was this shot in the autumn, or does this video imply the trees are dead?
