Here is the second part of the video of the flight from Old bridge airport (3N6) to eagles nest airport (31E) near Tuckerton NJ.
Eagles nest is a very small airport that is not used very much. It has no IFR approaches nor do they allow night operations because the runway which is 3200ft x 60ft isn't lighted. There is no FBO or fuel either so plan ahead if you land here. I hear the airport is under new management and is going to have alot of improvements in the near future.
They sometimes do banner towing operations out of here, and this day I was lucky enough to get there when it was happening. Look to the far left of the screen just as I cross the numbers and flare, you can see a white dot which is a person getting the banner ready for pickup. You can sorta see the red lettering of the banner laying on the ground also. When I got there I was met with clear skies, gusty crosswinds, and a little bit of wind sheer. The landing was decent. A little bit of float above the runway but that was expected since I carried a little extra speed to compensate for the gusts. The large trees surrounding the runway cause some tricky winds on short final also. The highway that I pass over just before the runway is the Garden State Parkway around exit 58. I did 2 landings within 15 minutes of each other there and both times I experienced the same winds and the same downdraft right over the highway on final. It was nothing major though and I think the way the camera is mounted makes everything seem like its moving around more then it really was.
My plane is a 1976 Piper Warrior.
Hope you like AC DC
Enjoy the clip!!

I will upload the video of the second landing in eagles nest soon...

  • no i didnt need to do a flyover to check the winds...there was a banner towing operation going on that day so i followed the runway they were using to keep the flow of traffic moving..also once u get on downwind you can clearly see the windsock .there is one at each end of the runway...happy flying

  • yea its usually pretty deserted...cool airport to come to just to hang out. Alot of r/c flying activity here tho....the day I landed in the video was the busiest I have ever seen that airport, they had another plane in the pattern and they were doing a banner towing operation there that day.. You can see to the left in the video right when i flare, there is a white dot (a person in white shirt) and the banner laying on the ground..

  • Cool! I live close to Eagles Nest and am a desktop pilot. Have landed a Mooney there many times with MicroSoft Flight Simulator (2002 thru X). Just stumbled upon your video by luck.

    Happy Flying!

  • Nice .. I've been to this airport several times.. you probably knew that 14 was the runway in use without a flyover of the windsock. I few in once and used the winds at Miller Airpark to land at 31E without looking at the sock. The problem is 32 would have been a much better choice! Winds were very different only a few miles away.

  • Sweet video! I am going to make a quick stop at Eagles Nest this weekend, weather permitting. My main objective is to do a fly by of LBI, but I need to land somewhere so I can log the XC time.

  • looks pretty deserted over there...

  • I live right down the road from eagles nest and i ride atvs at that sand plant. You should give me a ride sometime...
