FRONTAL OFFSET TEST
OVERALL EVALUATION: Good
Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right
Good Acceptable Good Good Acceptable Good
Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:
The Smart Fortwo was introduced in the 2008 model year. As its name implies, the Smart seats only two people; there is no rear seat.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the the dummy's head were high when it hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would also be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was negligible.

Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories.
Test details:
The Smart Fortwo was introduced in the 2008 model year. As its name implies, the Smart seats only two people; there is no rear seat.
During the crash, the driver door unlatched. This opening didn't significantly affect dummy movement during the test but shouldn't happen because, in some crashes, it could allow partial or complete occupant ejection, especially if the occupant is unbelted. This door opening resulted in a structure rating downgrade from good to acceptable.
Injury measures:
Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Rear passenger — (Not applicable)
Head protection:
Driver — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side airbag that deployed from the seat.
Rear passenger — (Not applicable)

@akablackvenom Do you have the video of the crash with the Mercedes?

the chassy can't get torn apart. what happens is that because of the fact that car is so light it pick up leverage also because the chassey is much stronger than the other car's because it doesn't absorb the impact. it looks bad obviously from the front of the smart but the structure is not compromised at all. the front window didn't even brake however the tritium cell really puts the other cars frontal integrity extremely vulnerable. i don't know if you noticed but that Mercedes benz's front

I bet I could total a smart car hitting one at 30 mph in my daily driver. Those cars have no business being on the road they are light, small and easily pushed around by a car with a larger mass. I also saw a crash test of one on tv where they talked bout how the driver would have very sever injuries with a normal sized car traveling at 30 and the smart car traveling at 30 and hitting.
