@girtisholland Looks like NatGeo deleted my comment... interesting...
But yeah, the shows about aliens on The History Channel seem less than accurate.

@Rikotistic Well, as unrational as it is, I respect him for acting in the best interests of his crew. I wouldn't have shot myself though.

@Rikotistic Meh, he might have been good, but he was no Otto Kretschmer. Otto managed to sink 274,333 tons 47 ships. He didn't need a battleship,or backup, with just one torpedo, he could take down any ship armed or unarmed, even destroyers which were designed specifically for taking down uboats like Otto's. He even made sure the lifeboats of his sunken ships were supplied with blankets and spirits whenever possible, even rescuing a lone stranded person in the water from another uboat attack.
that was a very good video I never knew about that ship.

That was an excellent presentation. Langsdorff was an enemy, still with no humanity in my view--though he did die with military honor. You can almost appreciate his hubris, especially when today we have cruise ship captain's falling into lifeboats instead of staying with their vessels. I think it was a wise decision for the British to go all out and target the Graf Spree. That ship and captain would have prolonged the war.
