The percent of District 196 students scoring proficient or better on state reading and math tests exceeded the statewide averages for all eight grades tested this year, according to results of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments series II released yesterday by the Minnesota Department of Education. The MCA-II scores are used to determine whether individual schools and school districts are making Adequate Yearly Progress under requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. That information will be released in August. MCA-II results for individual district schools are available at www.education.state.mn.us. Look for more in-depth reporting on the scores soon.

And today Ill leave you with a video on Burnsvilles well-known Lake Alimagnet Center for the Arts, which recently closed. Artists of every discipline used the city-owned building for more than two decades, but must now find somewhere else in the south metro to have board meetings, hold classes or rehearsals and store supplies. One tenant, the Burnsville Visual Arts Society, had a garage sale June 24 and 25 to sell supplies it cant store there anymore. Carolyn Carlson formerly of Apple Valley with the Arts Society was at the sale June 24 and gives us a final tour of the building.
