Olympic Overture
By Robin Langdon
Performed by "Baby SUSO" as part of the Baby SUSO Project.
This piece was the winner of a competition to write a piece for this reduced orchestra based on the idea of "The Olympics", to be played in various schools.
When I named this piece I was unaware of the John Williams piece of basically the same title ("The Olympic Spirit"). So I have recently re-named it Olympic Overture instead.
The Baby SUSO Project is all about the promotion of classical music to primary and secondary school children. We are doing this by taking a smaller version of a symphony orchestra into different schools and performing short concerts for the children, their teacher and parents. For most children it will be their first chance seeing an orchestra in the flesh and this sort of experience could really have a big impact on their lives and the way they will potentially view or get involved in classical music in the future.
This recording was made at the premiere of the piece, in the first school it was played in.
