The man in black did not turn into the smoke monster, he simply relesed it and it choose to take the form of the man in black. It later took form of sevral other people.

vvvContinuation...drug the subjects and put those fancy glasses on them (that we see on Carl when Ben imprisons him in S3) and play that psychedelic video with "Jacob Loves You" flashing throughout. That procedure insures that the subject completely loses his memory of being interrogated by The Dharma Folk.(This is also answered in "The New Man In Charge" you can find bits of it here on You Tube. vvvContinued..The poor Dharma guys have a whole heap (a shoutout to LOST fans maybe?) of questions naturally having worked for 15years after Dharmas demise,so in true LOST style Ben puts on a Dharma Video on "The Hydra" station for them to watch, which really doesn't explain a helluva lot.Apart from Polar Bears are dangerous:don't pet them and Room 23 was used to interrogate "The Hostiles/The Others" about the island and to find out who Jacob is.After interrogation they'd drug the subjects cont^

3.Ben had to prove his devotion to "The Others" and instigated "the purge" so that Richard would make Ben "The Leader".It was all Ben's idea.Very soon after Ben banished Widmore(This is explained in 5.09)4.The Food Drops come from two guys working in a Dharma Factory,who have no contact with the island and keep doing the drops for 15yrs after Dharmas demise.Ben (as Hurleys 2nd in charge) finally delivers them both very generous redundancy pay and let's the confused fellas ask a question each^^

1.Walt was important because he was supposed to BECOME the leader of the island after Jacob.Hurley and Ben eventually tracked him down (poor guy ended up in santa rosa) and brought him back to take on "The Leader" role.(This is answered in the mini ep. "The New Man in Charge" 2.The people shooting at Sawyer & crew in the outrigger were Ilanas group of Jacob's body guards (this is answered when they find an Ajira flight water bottle in one of the outriggers,so they jumped forward to 2007)contind^

I think the main 2 that bothered me was the Walt storyline, and the Dharma drops. The people that were shooting at Sawyer & the others were in the future.

this is old but the guys name is "Barry" In a episode they put on after lost that never aired or something they mentioned his name. it was a funny episode though:p
