okay this is an odd question but did you get a static shock from doing this?

No static shock. WHat you do is make sure the PC is unplugged from power source "the wall socket" Then make sure to discharge the power from the power supply by pushing the power button on the unit . Then try to keep one hand on the chassis to not static the3 NIC card as you install it. Don't have to keep one hand the whole time just make sure you are grounded and don't shuffle your feet around while doing the job.
