I wrote this song about the big pink hotel in my little town of Holualoa, HI. It was built in 1926, and was the center of social life on the entire west cost of the Big Island in its glory days. Today it is just a tiny old hotel in a tiny little villege. But she has not closed her doors. With a new coat of paint, she is still ready to show visitors to Hawaii a good time. The band consists of my friends Alan Hale (vocals), Jack Knight, (ukulele), his wife Jane Knight (Walkingbass), and myself on short scale Hawaiian lap steel. We are sitting on the front lanai of the Kona Hotel with the owner (Mrs. Inaba) and her family looking on.

  • Hi Auntie Wanda. Thanks for the post about Kona Hotel. I accidentally clicked the "thumbs down" rather than the "thumbs up". Is there a way to fix that?

  • Thank you SO much, Konabob, for posting this. We loved the song when you sang it at Aloha Camp last Feb., and it's wonderful to see it performed in front of the Kona Hotel. It brings back beautiful memories of our time in Kona. Mahalo!
